Abbey Road Farm: Winery

Abbey Road Farm Winery Production Building

In Carlton, Oregon, we transformed a former equestrian arena into a beautiful winery and tasting room with all the amenities of a ground-up-designed production facility and all the character of a historic agricultural building.

  • Location: Carlton, Oregon

Size: Hospitality 13,750 SF, Winery 5,575 SF

Designed for producing approximately 8,000 cases of wine and able to barrel 4,800 cases, this winery was designed to be efficient and extremely flexible.

The building’s structure was able to remain relatively intact, with the addition of structural infill within the existing trusses.

The outdoor crush space is brand new to the building and this allowed us to design it with more industrial, robust materials than the rest of the building to support the traffic of people and equipment.

  • DESIGN TEAM: Hope Telford AIA, Richard Brown AIA, Jason Didion, Narges Shams, Rhiannon Reynolds.

PHOTOGRAPHER: Josh Partee Photography and Nick Grier

  • Adaptive reuse of existing buildings.

    Efficient building envelope.

    Daylighting and passive cooling.

Site and roof-top water collection for irrigation.

A photovoltaic array is planned for the near future.
