This 4,500 SF residence and studio is located on the top floor of the historic Armour Building in Portland’s Pearl District. We coordinated with the Building Department and the Historic Preservation Office to meet code requirements while maintaining historic finishes and materials. The large original windows were repaired, and interior storm sashes added, to improve thermal performance within the space. A continuous skylight spans the generous living spaces, artist’s studio, and bathing area, to introduce natural light to the interior. We created an enclosed, sunken garden court to provide private access to the outdoors.
