Fremont Place, a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood commercial center in Northeast Portland, started as an abandoned property. Its primary tenant, a 36,000 SF natural food store, is surrounded by 14,500 SF of retail and office space, as well as the Albina branch of the public library. The centerpiece of the complex is the double-height, skylit Market Hall entry. The second level includes neighborhood services such as a hair salon, a health spa, and chiropractic offices.
The exterior design was carefully considered to be respectful of its residential surroundings, to reflect a NW character, and to respond to changing demographics. Landscaping incorporates native regional plants of grasses, shrubs, and trees.
This project received an Honor Award from the IIDA/AIA/ASID.
